Day 2: Designing the "What" - Program Structure and Design

Building a Framework for Excellence
Day 2 focuses on the what—the essential components of effective program design. Participants will explore how to create well-structured, goal-oriented programs that meet student needs and comply with funding requirements. Topics include designing activities that promote academic enrichment, ensuring equity in access, and building schedules that balance academic support with engaging enrichment opportunities. Discussions will include developing clear program objectives and goals, working with stakeholders and integrating communications as a key for success.

Driving Staff Excellence through Training and Development
Staff performance is crucial to program success. This session focuses on the how of building a skilled, motivated team. Administrators will learn strategies for posting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, inducting and retaining staff, with an emphasis on creating a positive workplace culture. Participants will explore best practices for supporting staff development in the areas of compliance, competency, and capacity building.  Attendees will understand how to design professional development plans that align with program goals and staff needs and be encouraged to develop a schedule of professional learning opportunities to ensure ongoing professional development for all staff.

This session will emphasize the importance of youth voice, community partnerships, stakeholder engagement, and maintaining good standing to ensure sustainability. Administrators will gain insights into creating a culture of reflection and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students and families.
