Social and emotional learning has become a common phrase and expectation in education. It has been integrated into education and program quality standards. Yet, how do we teach and foster the competencies with our students? The good news is, as an educator and care-giver, you are probably already doing it. In this session, attendees will review and reinforce their understanding of CASEL’s five social and emotional learning competencies: self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness and explore best and promising practices and routines to integrate into their expanded learning programs.
High school is an exciting time for young people. They are understanding who they are and making choices around who they want to become. Some of those choices are easy and some not as much. What we do know is that when young people have a better connection to their social and emotional competencies, they thrive. In this session, we’ll focus on needs of high school students and what we can do to best support them as they grow into adulthood.

However, we have also come to learn that SEL development is just as important for adults. In this session, attendees will take a thoughtful and deeper dive into each of the five core competencies using EMM’s Mattering Mindset™ (I Matter, You Matter, and We Matter) and craft routines that hone their own self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making so that they can take ownership of their our own SEL.

Our world is a pretty amazing place. It can be pretty intense and overwhelming, too. At times, we get wrapped up in its intensity and struggle or lose connection to what matters to us. We also know that if we do not take care of ourselves, it becomes challenging to be there for the people in our lives – our loved ones, our students, our colleagues, and our community. In this session, attendees will reconnect to what matters and experience practical and meaningful tools and routines that will help them and their students feel good again and see our world as the amazing and wonderful place it is.
