American Red Cross Disaster Preparedness

The American Red Cross is offering classes for disaster preparedness.  The presentations below are offered ONLINE and are COST FREE

Preparedness Presentations (Adults and Teens)
Trained Red Cross Subject Matter Experts present basic preparedness information. Presentations are approximately 45 minutes to one hour and the audience is expected to remain present throughout.  Available presentations include: PrepareU, PrepareTEENS, PrepareSeniors.

Pillowcase Project (Grades 3-5)
Is a one-hour program for children in 3rd through 5th grade. This interactive program will teach kids what to do in fires or earthquakes, coping skills for stressful situations, and general preparedness information. They will receive a workbook of preparedness activities (digital copy) at the end of the presentation.

Prepare with Pedro (Grades K-2)
Prepare with Pedro provides an introduction for students in grades k-2 to the concept of emergency preparedness in a fun and educational way. Using story-telling and hands on activities, students will build muscle memory and basic coping skills. A digital Prepare with Pedro story book, which includes a family safety checklist, will allow families to learn and repeat preparedness actions together.

We know educators in the expanded learning and in and out-of-school time field have very little time. BOOST Cafe is the most comprehensive online community for out-of-school time. The Cafe is an extension of BOOST Collaborative and is 100% free for users. We aim to support the out-of-school time field by providing a hub full of relevant, up-to-date, easy-to-implement resources and tools.

LIAS Guide

GUIDE TO IMPLEMENTING THE LEARNING IN AFTERSCHOOL & SUMMER (LIAS) LEARNING PRINCIPLES

Learning that is ACTIVE, COLLABORATIVE, MEANINGFUL, SUPPORTS MASTERY, AND EXPANDS HORIZONS.

The LIAS project has published an 118‐page guide to help programs implement activities that reflect the LIAS learning principles. It includes descriptions of each principle, ways that programs can begin, an observation rubric, example activities from exemplar programs in California, and training exercises that programs can use to introduce these principles to their staff.
